Quick Update

We received the info on McKenzie's urine culture which was done at Children's Hospital last Tuesday - ironically, our ER doctor called yesterday to check in on her, I told her we were still waiting on the culture, so she was able to track down the results for us - otherwise who knows how much longer we'd have been waiting. So, they confirmed the UTI/bladder infection, identified the specific organism and quantity found in her urine. She's been on antibiotics since last Tuesday anyway, so we're good on that front. So what does this mean? Well, it means that we will go in for her follow up x-ray on Wednesday as planned and see our pediatrician on Thursday morning, also as planned. They will do another catheterized urine test in the office on Thursday (sigh...) to make sure the antibiotics are doing their job - and we will likely recieve orders for more testing to be done at Children's (renal/kidney sonogram and voiding cystourethroyn or something like that - the latter of which doesn't sound fun). You can find more info here: http://children.webmd.com/tc/urinary-tract-infections-in-children-exams-and-tests .

These are pretty standard follow-up orders for a 17 month old with a UTI - they are looking for WHY she got the bladder infection in the first place and also need to rule out any structural reasons for it. I am not sure when this will be done, if they have to put her to sleep again or anything like that - just been told by the ped and nurse to expect this - and had it reconfirmed by the ER doctor yesterday that this would likely be the protocol. Lovely.

As for the back up - she has now pooped twice since last Tuesday on her own - all others induced by enema. I am hopeful that with the x-rays we'll be able to devise a plan that will ensure we can get this blockage broken down and passed so that we can just focus on keeping her little system moving. However, we must find a way to get that damn thing out first...

She still seems to be feeling better....not 100% yet, but certainly much improved. :) Looking beyond the doctor's appointments this week and forward to a three-day weekend - or as Mason would explain it, "three family days!"
