A Good Luck Charm?
Although I'm not supersticious, okay, maybe a little supersticious when it comes to sports, McKenzie made a victorious debut at her first UCLA game on Saturday. It is now imperative that she attends every home game to ensure the Bruin "W". Okay by me, a win is a win.
Our first long trek of the season up to the Rose Bowl - and yes, it is one heck of a drive and makes one very long and very fun day, super long and very fun. It was great to be back with our tailgate group again - the majority of whom I have tailgated with since our reckless college days (yep, in the exact same spot) - and the group also includes a few friends I went to both high school and college with as well. Over the years most of us took on signifcant others and became couples - and now there are a boatload of littles running around to boot (not literally). The most notable difference? Tents. We had no kidding four tents up for shade on Saturday - in the past we had one - to shade the food - now we have four. :) And instead of keg parking - we had stroller parking. Our group had three new babies since the season ended last year - so it was great fun to get them together as well as reunite the "big kids". Mason squealed like a pig as we drove down Rosemont and she spotted the Rose Bowl and the tents/balloons set up in the tailgate area. It will be even more fun this time next year when we have three more terrors running around (all girls though, so at least they won't be climing the tents, just "twirling" around them).
Anyway, ofcourse the battery in our camera died after I took ONE picture of McKenzie as we were getting set up. Other folks took many pics, so hopefully some will be coming via email. The girls both did great during the game - especially considering both were basically napless - I certainly cannot complain. Needless to say, both crashed out as soon as we got them into their seats for our long drive home.
Mason's school year officially started last week. This year they will be incorporating music and spanish into their weekly lessons. She has also started working on her math fundamentals with the montessori materials - yesterday she showed me a bucket of pink pigs she had been working with - counting and adding. She has also taken to reading to herself at bedtime - what a treat she has ahead of her when she actually CAN read to herself! :) Anyway, its fun to watch her - so eager and hungry to learn. She was so excited to bring her 1st homework assignment of the year home last night - she is learning to write her name - she has to write it four times before Friday (sounds like a little, but at 3 1/2, it takes a lot of focus and time to work on each individual letter - fortunately there are only five letters for her - McKenzie will be screwed!).
