Note: No one has discussed surgery as an option for us - while we haven't seen the urologist yet, my general understanding is the basic treatment for this is antibiotics 1x/day for one year. Whether or not that will be our journey we will not know for sure until we see the urologist, but I have no reason to believe otherwise. Our ped asked last night that we start her antibiotics immediately, so we are beginning a low dose of amoxacillian (pink medicine! yum) today, and will continue with that until we are told otherwise.
Okay...here is the scoopage on the results of yesterday's test for McKenzie...I looked it up on webMD. Its the most simple explanation I have found...
Vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) is the backward flow of urine from the bladder into the kidneys.
Normally, urine flows from the kidneys through the ureters to the bladder, and the muscles of the bladder and ureters and the pressure of urine in the bladder prevent urine from flowing backward through the ureters. VUR allows bacteria, which may be present in the urine in the bladder, to reach the kidneys. This can lead to kidney infection, scarring, and damage (chronic kidney disease).
The goal of treatment for vesicoureteral reflux is to prevent kidney damage. Treatment may include antibiotics or surgery. Frequent urine tests may be needed to check for infection.
